Mondraker Summum Carbon Pro on test
"It's as light as an enduro bike - crazy!" When FREERIDE tester Laurin Lehner rides the Mondraker for the first time, he is completely blown away.
Plenty of reserves: Big bikes inspire with fluffy riding comfort and a high fault tolerance. Fischi doesn't care, he just wants to be as fast as possible - and the lightweight Mondraker is the right bike for him.Photo: Lars Scharl Plenty of reserves: Big bikes inspire with fluffy riding comfort and a high fault tolerance. And it's true: the Spanish full-carbon construction bolide weighs a sensational 14.8 kilos and is therefore almost 3 kilos (!) lighter than Scott's test field fatty. World champion Danny Hart should find new top form with this fantastically beautiful and sinfully expensive downhiller. At first we struggle to find the right set-up. The rear sinks in deep, hangs in the suspension travel and produces punctures and flats. No way! We change the spring rate from the supplied 400 to 450, but we are still sagging too much. So we have to get the 500. Nevertheless, the character of the Mondraker is idiosyncratic; the suspension is heterogeneous. Tight and linear at the front and very sensitive at the rear with the finest response behaviour, but now very progressive. In order to utilise the sensitivity of the rear suspension at all, you have to put a lot of weight on the front wheel. Only very good riders can do this, especially on demanding courses. Fischi has no problem with this and praises the flyweight: "The bike has enduro handling - great!" However, if you position yourself in the centre as usual, the rear end sinks too low and already slightly into the progression of the shock. The result: little suspension travel, bumpy, susceptible to flats (especially with the Schwalbe diet tyres fitted).

ConclusionThe Mondraker is an idiosyncratic bike and definitely not for everyone. It takes some getting used to and needs to be ridden very actively. In the hands of an expert, it becomes a race weapon.

The light weight is almost suspicious! Will it all hold up? We don't want to speculate. But the fact is: The Mondraker has the airy handling of an enduro bike.Photo: Daniel Simon The light weight is almost suspicious! Will it all hold up? We don't want to speculate. Even Woldcupper Fischbach thought that was too much of a good thing.Photo: Daniel Simon Short is already long here! Sophisticated concept: Mondraker calls its very own idea "Forward Geometry" for even better handling and more direct steering. In fact, the long bike is surprisingly manoeuvrable.Photo: Daniel Simon Sophisticated concept: Mondraker calls its very own idea "Forward Geometry" for even better handling and more direct steering.
