Crazy! For a long time, Five Ten was the top dog in the MTB shoe business. Now the market is flooded with MTB shoes. The trend: shoes with a Boa fastener.

Like the X-Alp-Launch. These lightweight kicks are packed with subtle MTB features, such as heel and toe protection. The thin upper material offers little protection. The BOA fastener works well as usual. The tongue could be a little wider, so you have to position it in the centre before tightening the shoe. The wearing comfort is good. The Goodyear Pinloc sole only has moderate grip. The ventilation is okay.

WeaknessesGrip, discreet MTB features

Conclusion: MTB shoe light for trail rides. Good wearing comfort. There are grippier soles. Nothing for heavy DH use.

Born in South Baden, Laurin Lehner is, by his own admission, a lousy racer. Maybe that's why he is fascinated by creative, playful biking. What counts for him is not how fast you get from A to B, but what happens in between. Lehner writes reports, interviews scene celebrities and tests products and bikes - preferably those with a lot of suspension travel.
