Enduro: Propain Tyee in the FREERIDE check
The Lake Constance-based mail order company has reissued its Enduro Tyee. A nice side effect: apart from the frame construction, the customer has a free choice of wheel size, material, chassis, decal or saddle colour.
Pretty to look at: The new Propain Tyee 2020 looks much more stylish than its predecessor. Who noticed it? THE CONCEPT

The Tyee is an old acquaintance. The enduro bike scored top marks in previous comparison tests. The look of the 2020 model has changed completely, the geometry (27.5 inches) remains similar: slightly more reach, shorter chainstays, same steering angle. New: In frame sizes M and L, the Tyee is available with either 29" or 27.5" wheels. The S frame is only available with 27.5-inch wheels, while the XL is only available with 29-inch wheels. The floating shock moves to the front of the seat tube, making it easier to reach the platform function of the shock while riding.

On the trail

We rode the 27.5 model (M) with air shock and the 29er version (L) with steel spring. The new Tyee is a classic enduro bike, not the overweight race bike transformed into a mini downhiller that manufacturers are currently so keen to present. This means that the Propain climbs very well. It pedals neutrally and the platform function on the shock is hardly necessary. Downhill, it is nicely balanced - but gives more feedback than competitors in the suspension travel class. In 29 inches and with a coil shock, the downhill qualities increase significantly. Disadvantage: The weight increases and reduces the range of use. Yes, Enduro means compromise!

For whom?

The 27.5 mm version with air shock is a super all-rounder in our eyes. The bike has a wide range of use, enough pop for off-road jumps and plenty of playfulness. Downhill fans will be happier with the much more potent steel rear suspension and 29er wheels, but will have to accept the extra weight. In short: we like the new Tyee. Great: It can be customised using the configurator. You can even choose the decal and badge colours. We look forward to seeing how the Tyee performs in our next comparison test.
