Comeback: The Canyon Torque is back!
In 2018, Canyon is bringing its all-rounder Torque back to life. With 175 mm at the rear and 180 mm at the front, the new Torque wants to prove it: Freeride bikes are far from dead...

The former premier class "freerider" is apparently celebrating a comeback in 2018. Not only the manufacturers Cube, Propain and Commencal believe in the bike class with ample suspension travel, the Koblenz-based mail-order giant Canyon is also relaunching its tried-and-tested Torque 2018 in 2018.

Torque - the name stays the same, everything else is new. It was important to designer Moritz Ströer that the bike could be pedalled as drive-neutral as possible. The new Torque has been given the kinematics of the Sender downhiller, which gives it a similar look. The bike will be available in aluminium (from 2199 euros) and carbon with an aluminium rear triangle (from 3499 euros). However, the Torque is not a lightweight: the weights vary between approx. 14.2* kilos (top model) and 15.3* kilos (entry-level model) (* manufacturer's specifications).

175 mm at the rear and 180 mm at the front make the Torque a freerider, which inevitably begs the question: Is there still a market for heavier, high-stroke bikes now that enduro bikes are becoming increasingly downhill-heavy and potent and modern big bikes are getting lighter and lighter?

We'll show you our first test impression, opinions on the former premier class and what mail order company YT presented at the same time in the next issue of FREERIDE 1/18 - on newsstands from 8 March.

By the way: In addition to the three carbon models, Canyon is offering two aluminium versions of its Sender downhill bike in 2018. The price of the entry-level Sender AL 6.0 model is 2499 euros (weight: approx. 17.4 kilos), while the Sender AL 7.0 costs 2999 euros and weighs approx. 17.5 kilos.

There will also be a new model of the Canyon Spectral trail bike. A detailed article on this can be found here: +++ http://www.bike-magazin.de/mtb_news/mtb_neuheiten/neu-canyon-spectral-2018/a37819.html

There is no official approval for a double bridge fork on the new Torque. But only because of the missing stops on the frame. In terms of load capacity, this should not be a problem, says the manufacturer. Photo: Boris Beyer,Canyon Bicycles There is no official approval for a double bridge fork on the new Torque. Born in South Baden, Laurin Lehner is, by his own admission, a lousy racer. Maybe that's why he is fascinated by creative, playful biking. What counts for him is not how fast you get from A to B, but what happens in between. Lehner writes reports, interviews scene celebrities and tests products and bikes - preferably those with a lot of suspension travel.
