"Awesome thing!" says test rider Paul. He likes the "raw look" of the Rose. "Not nice, is it?" says Fischi. The look of the "Unchained" with its brushed aluminium tubes is polarising."

But the testers agree on the ride characteristics: "Very harmonious!" In FREERIDE 4/13 we had already tested the expensive version of the "Unchained" and were impressed. Designer Max Sistenich created the bike from scratch and bent the tubeset into shape with an oil squeezer - in contrast to Rose's previously straight tubes. Striking: attention to detail (e.g. plastic protection) and well-chosen equipment. The "Unchained" is very similar in character to the competition from Canyon and YT.

The bike rides beautifully direct, has a plush feel and pleases with a harmonious chassis. The rear suspension offers a lot of comfort in the long travel (220 millimetres) and the long chainstay position provides sufficient smoothness. Perfect for the downhill on the Geißkopf with its jumps and rock steps. The bike can be pushed into corners willingly, is lively and agile in the air and rolls safely through the rubble on its fat "Kaiser" tyres. With short suspension travel, we liked the Rose a little better because it is even more direct and lively. Good choice: the "Code" brakes with plenty of stopping power and good modulation.

Conclusion: Freeride missions or downhill battles - the Rose is a great big bike with a wide range of uses, a fun maker in the literal sense of the word. You won't regret buying one.

How do you like this article?

Johannes Fischbach (26):
"The Rose is a very balanced bike. Good cornering handling, it doesn't wallow, steers directly and accelerates out of the turn with vigour. Great: the plastic protection for the cables on the down tube - someone has thought about it."
