Steel, aluminium, magnesium or carbon: all proven frame materials. But wood? The Spanish company Cyclowood has specialised in this natural raw material. It could hardly be more exclusive.

What do you make out of wood? Some say "furniture", others say "flooring". Some people can do no more with wood than use it for heating. However, very few people think of using it to make bicycle frames. The small Spanish company Cyclowood belongs to this exclusive circle and has been manufacturing wooden bicycle frames since 1943.

Four models, including one mountain bike

The company from Vilela now has four different models with wooden frames. A retro bike, a city cruiser, a racing bike and a mountain bike. It goes without saying that we are particularly interested in the latter.

Equipment according to customer requirements

With its mountain bike, Cyclowood is responding to numerous customer requests. It rolls on either 29-inch or 27.5-inch wheels. The customer has the say when it comes to the equipment. Cyclowood promises that everyone will get the equipment they want. There are obviously no predefined model configurations. Alternatively, the frame is also available without equipment. The frame weight is between 1600 and 2300 grams depending on wheel size, size and type of wood. As prices are only available on request, the Cyclowood mountain bike is certainly not a bargain, but it is a real eye-catcher.

The Cyclowood mountain bike is designed to withstand even the toughest conditions. No matter whether it's freezing cold, wet or muddy.

Adrian Kaether's favourite thing to do is ride mountain bikes on bumpy enduro trails. The tech expert and bike tester knows all about Newton metres and watt hours, high and low-speed damping. As test manager at MYBIKE, Adrian also likes to think outside the box and tests cargo bikes and step-through bikes as well as the latest (e-)MTBs.
