When the Mondraker Crafty came onto the market ten years ago, the topic of e-mountainbikes was at best just entering puberty. Developed at the same time as the first generation of the Bosch Performance Line CX, the Crafty was conceived from the outset as a genuine mountain bike with electric tailwind - not as an adapted bio-bike. This self-image still characterises the platform today.
With the Crafty Unlimited Icon, Mondraker is not celebrating this development nostalgically, but technically: as a retrospective of ten years of consistent evolution. Mondraker's forward geometry with long reach values and a slack steering angle is still one of the most progressive and frequently adapted approaches in the E-MTB segment. Paired with the Zero Suspension System, the Crafty stands for a balanced ratio of traction, control and reserves - both uphill and downhill.
"Unlimited" is not a marketing add-on at Mondraker, but a clear statement. Models with this suffix are produced in very limited numbers and mark what is technically and qualitatively feasible within the respective platform. With the Crafty Unlimited Icon, this concept is consistently implemented: from the frame material to the chassis and components right down to the smallest part.
The Stealth Air full carbon frame forms the basis. The elaborate paint finish in Quantum Black and Quantum Silver remains deliberately minimalist, but sets specific accents with metallic-holographic elements and polished aluminium and chrome details. Each frame also bears the painter's signature - a detail that makes each unit unique.
The Bosch Performance Line CX-R of the fifth generation is at the centre of the technology. 100 grams lighter than the CX, equipped with Extended Boost, an extra-long overrun. In conjunction with the recently launched Performance Upgrade 2.0, the motor achieves a maximum torque of 120 Nm and support of up to 600 per cent.
The increased performance should not be at the expense of modulation. The software optimisations ensure a particularly direct and controlled response, especially in technical passages at a low cadence. The motor is powered by an 800 Wh Powertube battery, which can be optionally extended by the Bosch PowerMore Range Extender with an additional 250 Wh.
Mondraker combines the powerful drive unit with the highest level of suspension. An Öhlins RXF 38 M.3 with 160 mm travel is fitted at the front and an Öhlins TTX22 M.2 coil shock at the rear. This combination is clearly aimed at sporty riders who expect consistent performance even under high loads.
The wheels are DT Swiss Hybrid HXC 1200 Carbon - light, stiff and specially designed for E-MTB loads. The Trickstuff Maxima brake system with 4-piston callipers and 203 mm discs underlines the uncompromising claim, as do the electronic SRAM XX Eagle AXS T-Type drivetrain and the Rock Shox Reverb AXS dropper post. And what does this exclusive fun cost? The Spaniards are asking €12,999 for their limited-edition gem.
