The name and the high price are a hint: Bergamont's new carbon frame set is hidden beneath the attractive sunlight-iridescent paintwork of the Grandurance Elite. Compared to the aluminium models, it reduces the fighting weight by almost a kilo and also provides more sophisticated riding dynamics and riding position. Compared to the 2021 test bike from the AL series, it only takes a few centimetres to refine the geometry: a slightly longer wheelbase, a slightly shorter top tube and shorter chainstays, plus an adapted cockpit - and you won't want to get off the bike.
The centred weight distribution, the smooth directional stability and the balanced steering make touring on roads and paths of all kinds a delightful experience. Components suitable for everyday use would make the Bergamont Grandurance the ideal commuting racer, if only there were a rear kickstand option. Without this, it's difficult to find a stable parking position or to attach panniers to the solid Hebie rack. Unfortunately, this limits the enjoyment of everyday use somewhat.
MYBIKE tested a total of seven gravel bikes suitable for everyday use. You can find out interesting facts, background information on gravel bikes and the results of all bikes in comparison in this article.
