Rose has his most successful Gravelbike and presents the new Backroad with features for more independence on long tours. The centrepiece of the new development is an integrated storage space in the down tube, which houses the so-called tool bag as standard. The "boot" not only offers protection for tools and spare parts, but also allows a power bank to be fitted. This can supply electronic devices with power via a USB-C port on the handlebars - a practical feature for longer tours where the power supply for navigation devices or smartphones needs to be ensured. The new product clearly differentiates itself from the Backroad FF from the German direct distributor. Models with aluminium and carbon frames are available. The CF models start at a weight of 9.1 kilograms, for the AL versions Rose quotes complete wheel weights from 10.4 kilograms.
With a tyre clearance of up to 53 millimetres (Backroad CF), the new Backroad offers enough space for wide knobby tyres that provide traction and comfort even on demanding terrain. With a total of 18 mounting points on the frameset, the Rose can be customised for different purposes - from a minimalist setup for day tours to full bikepacking equipment for multi-day adventures. The carbon models are supplied with a frame bag as standard, which is attached to the frame using the Fidlock system, just like the optionally available top tube bags.
The highlight of the new platform is the "Unsupported" variantdesigned for maximum independence: Hub dynamo (SON 29 S), power bank (Busch & Müller), lighting system (Supernova M99, TL3 Mini) and a so-called power switch (Supernova) to control the technology are all part of the standard equipment. These features make the bike independent of external power sources - an advantage on long tours and when travelling at night. All other models can be upgraded to the unsupported version at a later date, as the necessary cables are already pre-installed in each version.
In addition to the carbon versions, Rose has also updated the Backroad AL. The aluminium fleet has the same storage space in the down tube and the integrated USB-C port as its more expensive carbon counterparts. As all cables are also pre-routed on the aluminium models, a standard power bank, dynamo or lighting system can also be retrofitted. For commuters and touring cyclists, the Bocholt-based company has also developed the Backroad AL EQ in the programme. This version comes with mudguards, a lighting system and a hub dynamo, making it particularly suitable for everyday use and longer journeys.
The basic models with aluminium frames are available in four equipment variants from 2000 euros. Rose also offers one version with mudguards, pannier rack and hub dynamo - which will please commuters. Five models of bikes with carbon frames are available in the online shop from 3000 euros. There is a choice of gear groups from Shimano and SRAM, as a single or double version and as a mechanical or electronic version. All new models are fitted with robust aluminium wheels from Rose. The Bocholt-based company offers the aluminium models in eight frame sizes, two more than the carbon fleet.
