The Californian company Marin from Petaluma is venturing into the e-gravel sector for the first time. The Lombard E is designed to handle both the daily commute to work and weekend adventures on gravel. The new e-drive extends the range of the Lombard concept, which was originally designed as a city bike.

The developers are positioning the bike as a versatile dropbar multi-talent for various surfaces. The compact Bosch SX Sprint drive works together with an integrated 400 Wh PowerTube battery. This combination promises sufficient support for steep climbs and longer tours.

Hydroforming technology and design

The new Series 4 Beyond Road frame uses hydroforming technology for the aluminium construction. The process is intended to enable complex tube shapes and reduce weight at the same time. The full carbon fork complements the aluminium frame and promises comfort on various surfaces.

Marin integrates generous tyre clearance into the design. This design allows wider tyres for better grip on gravel and unpaved roads. The geometry is based on modern gravel standards with a relaxed riding position for longer rides.

Bosch SX support

The Bosch SX Sprint motor works as a compact mid-motor unit. The system is designed to combine a natural riding experience with discreet support. The 400 Wh PowerTube battery disappears completely into the down tube and preserves the sleek look of the frame.

The motor support is available up to 25 km/h and offers various support levels. Bosch promises quiet operation and efficient energy utilisation for maximum range. The display is discreetly integrated into the handlebar area and shows all relevant riding data.

Shimano GRX equipment in two stages

The Lombard E1 uses mechanical Shimano GRX components with 12-speed gears. The hydraulic disc brakes are also from the GRX series and are designed to offer reliable braking performance in all weather conditions. This basic configuration costs 3,899 euros.

The E2 version adds Shimano GRX Di2 electronic shifting to the equipment. The wireless 12-speed system promises precise gear changes at the touch of a button. A Trans X dropper seatpost enables quick saddle height adjustment while riding. The surcharge for these extras is 800 euros.
