As part of the big MYBIKE reader survey, the editorial team nominated five pedelecs and five bikes that we think have what it takes to be the bike or e-bike of the year. The readers have cast a clear vote. The winner of the Bicycle of the Year category is the Canyon Grizl CF SL8. Read more about the pedelec of the year, the Radon Relate 8.0, here.
Gravel bikes are a very hot topic at the moment: for sporty Driver the versatile bikes with their wide range of use and safe, confident riding behaviour are an ideal universal bike.
With significantly wider tyres and a more relaxed riding position than on a road bike, gravel bikes are super fast and agile on all types of roads and paths. The real fun starts where the tarmac ends. A dose of adventure is already built into the gravel bike.
The Canyon Grizl now shifts the target group of gravel bikes towards adventure bikers: really fat tyres, a more variation-friendly cockpit with a conventional stem and gravel handlebars, a comfortable leaf-spring seatpost and a slightly more relaxed geometry make the Grizl an almost all-rounder. Schwalbes G-One Bite offer a very good compromise for mixed tarmac and off-road use. The Grizl zips confidently and agilely over gravel and tarmac, even on narrow trails it leaves a convincing impression. Thanks to numerous frame threads, special panniers and even mudguards can be securely mounted
The Grizl, with its lightweight but stable carbon frame and fork set, weighs just over 9.2 kilogrammes in size M.
The voluminous G-One Bite tyres are very wide at 45 millimetres and therefore provide plenty of grip and precise tracking on open surfaces. But they also roll fast on tarmac, with low rolling resistance and high damping. They therefore offer the best of both worlds.
One 2x11-speed GRX derailleur from Shimano impresses with its wide gear range of almost 480 per cent and a wide gradation of 22 gears. Thanks to a gear reduction in the lowest gear, even longer climbs can be mastered in relative comfort.
Typical for gravel bikes are the many Thread on frame and fork: A top tube bag and several bottle cages can be attached to it. The triple threads on the fork of the Canyon Grizl are used for so-called anything cages, which can hold large PET bottles or a pannier with luggage. For stability reasons, these threads are limited to 3 kilos per fork side.
There are also threads on the seat stay and fork for mudguards: This makes the bike suitable for everyday use and bad weather, e.g. for travelling to work.
Canyon has put together a list of suitable accessories and spare parts on its website. The direct marketer is also planning a slightly cheaper version of the Grizl with an aluminium frame and other models with a suspension fork and SRAM or Campagnolo gears.
