The Freiburg-based bicycle manufacturer Tout Terrain is expanding its portfolio with the Metropolitan II Select 6.1, a model for daily city commuting with a focus on low maintenance and high suitability for everyday use. The bike is aimed at users who regularly travel in urban environments and value robust, low-maintenance technology.

Topics in this article

Gear hub meets belt drive

The new Metropolitan II Select 6.1 is a city bike aimed at everyday riders. The design consistently favours well thought-out and low-maintenance components for daily use in city traffic. At the heart of the drive is the combination of a Shimano Alfine hub gear and a Gates Carbon Drive belt. Belt drives are considered to require less maintenance than chains, as they do not require lubricants and are less sensitive to dirt and weather. In conjunction with an encapsulated gear hub, this reduces wear and tear and maintenance requirements in everyday use.

Robust load transporter

For the transport of everyday loads, Tout Terrain relies on a two-part luggage system for the Metropolitan II: a Racktime front rack is provided at the front and an integrated Tout Terrain rear rack at the rear. A two-legged kickstand is designed to facilitate safe loading and unloading, especially with heavier weights on the racks. In addition, a steering stop limits the turning of the front wheel, which can prevent the handlebars from tipping when the bike is parked with a loaded front carrier.

The bike rolls on 29-inch wheels and is designed for an upright riding position. It is therefore aimed less at sporty riders and more at commuters who prioritise visibility in traffic and comfort. According to the manufacturer, the frame and components are designed for long-lasting use. In this context, Tout Terrain speaks of a "Lifetime-Ready Construction".
