Tezeus C8: High-tech package for commuting
With the C8 wants Tezeus from Hong Kong show that low weight, a fair price and many smart features are by no means mutually exclusive. To achieve this, the city e-bike relies on an elegant carbon frame that keeps the weight down to a sporty 16.5 kilograms.
Unlike many other lightweight e-bikes, the Samsung battery with 360 Wh capacity remains removable. The manufacturer promises a range of up to 100 kilometres. We would rather say 50 to 70 kilometres is realistic, unless you only ride in Eco mode.
The Tezeus is propelled by an in-house mid-motor with a powerful 75 Newton metres of torque. A large 5-inch touchscreen integrated directly into the handlebars takes care of the controls. That looks classy. Despite the carbon fibre, touch screen and lots of technology, the price is quite fair. The Tezeus C8 regularly costs 3299 euros. Often well under 3000 euros with discount campaigns.
Unlock by touch
Particularly interesting: the comprehensive security features. Instead of a key or PIN code, a fingerprint sensor on the handlebars unlocks the bike biometrically, just like on a mobile phone. GPS tracking is also on board and enables the bike to be located in the event of theft.
There is also a radar system integrated into the rear light that monitors traffic behind you and can warn you of potential collisions - a function previously only found on very new premium bikes such as the Specialized Vado, the Giant Explore or Garmin systems on road bikes.
The Tezeus also comes with a low-maintenance belt drive and three-speed hub - perfectly adequate for a city e-bike. Headlights are permanently integrated into the bike. The brakes are hydraulic, of course. If you want, you can also order the bike with a matching pannier rack and mudguards to further increase its practicality in everyday use.
What does the new update bring?
Two years after its market launch, Tezeus has responded to feedback from its global user base and rolled out an update for the model that improves some nice details. For example, the BASF coating is new. This should be significantly more scratch-resistant and better able to withstand the sun. After all, commuter bikes used on a daily basis are usually left outside and can otherwise fade quickly.
The engine firmware has also been fundamentally revised via an over-the-air update (OTA). The power delivery should now be more linear and adapted to the situation. The AI-supported hill climbing logic in particular has been sharpened and automatically adapts the torque to different road conditions - promising more natural support. At the same time, the entire smart ecosystem has also been revised. Response times for the display, fingerprint scanner, GPS tracking and radar should be shorter and app pairing more reliable.
Price-performance ratio
With a regular price of 3299 euros, the Tezeus C8 is in the normal segment for city e-bikes. However, it is currently available for 2699 euros - a discount of 600 euros, which makes the package much more attractive. The manufacturer offers a two-year warranty and is currently expanding its service network in Europe. There are already a few dealers selling Tezeus. But more would certainly be even better.
BIKE conclusion
The Tezeus C8 is an interesting proposition for commuters who value low weight and modern features. The combination of carbon frame, removable battery and extensive safety technology is rare in this form. The fact that the manufacturer is following up with a substantial update two years after the launch speaks for continuous further development.
Whether the AI-supported engine control and the radar system deliver what they promise in practice would have to be shown in a detailed test. However, at the current promotional price of 2699 euros, the Tezeus C8 is definitely worth considering - provided that service support is guaranteed in your region.
