With the Codo Evo 8, Pegasus is launching a particularly competitively priced branded e-bike for the 2027 model year. A Bosch mid-drive motor, a removable 400 Wh battery and features suitable for everyday use make this affordable low-step bike particularly appealing for daily commuting and touring.

Verdict on the Pegasus Codo Evo 8

The new Pegasus Codo Evo 8 is not an e-bike for those obsessed with high-end features. It is a deliberately simple everyday bike for people looking for an affordable way to get started in the world of e-bikes with a Bosch mid-drive motor. Its strengths include the comfortable low step-through frame, the top-loading battery, the Purion 200 colour display and the Racktime luggage rack, which can carry loads of up to 30 kilograms. All in all, it’s a really strong package at this price. - Adrian Kaether, Test & Technology Editor

The Codo Evo 8 is available exclusively as a low-step model. This makes it particularly suitable for everyday cyclists who want to get on and off the bike comfortably. This is useful not only in city traffic, but also when the e-bike is loaded with luggage or you need to stop frequently. The price is attractive: even at the list price, the bike will cost just 2,499 euros.

Bosch Active Line Plus and 400 Wh battery

For its electric assistance, Pegasus relies on the tried-and-tested Bosch Active Line Plus mid-drive motor with a maximum torque of 60 Newton metres. The drive system is well suited to the Codo Evo 8’s intended use: the e-bike is primarily designed as a comfortable everyday, shopping and touring bike, rather than as a sporty long-distance machine.

Power is supplied by a 400 Wh battery integrated into the frame. The battery can be easily removed from the down tube by lifting it upwards. This makes it relatively straightforward to take it indoors, to the cellar or to the office for charging. At the same time, the battery remains neatly integrated into the frame whilst riding.

The Bosch system is operated via the Purion 200. The compact colour display is mounted directly on the handlebars and combines the display and control unit. This means that key riding data and the selected assistance level remain clearly visible. However, you have to do without more detailed information, such as a navigation display, as found on Bosch’s Kiox displays.

Pegasus Codo Evo 8 with ESSA derailleur

When it comes to components, Pegasus takes a clear approach: the Codo Evo 8 is designed to remain affordable whilst still offering all the key features needed for everyday use. Accordingly, it is fitted with an affordable yet functional Essa derailleur, which we’ve already had the chance to test on this bike.

50-millimetre-wide tyres for greater comfort

With its 50-millimetre-wide Schwalbe Big Apple Urban tyres, the Pegasus Codo Evo 8 is designed for comfort and safety in everyday use. The extra tyre volume absorbs bumps, cobblestones and poor cycle paths better than narrow city bike tyres. It also features an affordable Suntour suspension fork. You shouldn’t expect particularly sensitive handling here. However, the fork should handle kerbs and potholes well.

Racktime luggage rack for up to 30 kilograms

An important feature for everyday use is the standard Racktime luggage rack. It uses the latest Snap-it 2.0 standard, which allows compatible baskets, bags and other accessories to be quickly attached and removed.

With a load capacity of up to 30 kilograms, the luggage rack also offers plenty of headroom. This makes the Codo Evo 8 an attractive option for larger shopping trips and the daily commute to work. Even heavier panniers can be carried, provided the permissible total loads are not exceeded. The bike itself is said to weigh 26 kilos. With a generous maximum system weight of 150 kilos, this still leaves nearly 125 kilos for the rider and luggage.

MonkeyLink interface for accessories

The bike also features a MonkeyLink interface. This system makes it easy to attach compatible accessories, such as lights, to the bike, or to clip a mobile phone onto it using SP Connect. The main advantage lies in its ease of use: instead of additional mounts or complicated installation steps, compatible components can be fitted directly via the designated interface.

An affordable branded e-bike without any unnecessary frills

The Pegasus Codo Evo 8 is one of the most interesting budget-friendly branded e-bikes of the 2027 model year. Rather than promoting as many comfort features as possible, Pegasus focuses on the core requirements: a Bosch mid-drive motor, a removable battery, a functional gear system, wide tyres and a sturdy luggage rack.

The 400 Wh battery is smaller than those found on significantly more expensive trekking e-bikes. However, this capacity may be sufficient for typical everyday journeys, shopping trips and shorter rides. At the same time, the smaller battery helps to keep the price – and, presumably, the weight – down.
