Ampler presents Nova and Nova Pro, the world's first e-bikes with a USB-C charging port integrated directly into the frame. This innovation enables charging with conventional chargers, which simplifies everyday life with the e-bike and should reduce waste from electronic scrap.

Topics in this article

Ampler sets new standards with its new Nova and Nova Pro e-bike models is an accent in the field of electromobility. According to the manufacturer, the pedelecs are the world's first e-bikes to feature a USB-C charging port directly in the frame. This approach eliminates the need for bulky special chargers that are required for conventional e-bikes. Instead, the e-bike can be charged with a commercially available powerful USB-C charger. Up to 140 watts are possible. However, most laptop chargers only have two-digit wattages. This means that the charging process takes correspondingly longer.

Nevertheless, the innovation should not only simplify everyday life with the e-bike, but also contribute to the reduction of e-waste. The charging time is 2.5 hours for daily use and 3.5 hours for a full charge at a full 140 watts. Ampler's approach is in line with the upcoming EU directive, which will require USB-C charging ports for electronic devices from January 2026 and is intended to help reduce the 11,000 tonnes of e-waste generated annually by unused chargers.

Two model variants for different requirements

The Nova range comprises two model variants aimed at different target groups. Ampler is positioning the basic Nova model as the ideal entry into the world of e-bikes. It has been specially developed for effortless rides in the city and combines simplicity, comfort and style for everyday use. With wide 27.5-inch tyres and a 9-speed MicroSHIFT drive, it is designed for relaxed, safe rides in a comfortable, upright riding position in urban areas.

The Nova Pro, on the other hand, is aimed at more demanding users who want to cover longer distances, require more power or want to experience more adventures. It has sportier 28-inch wheels and higher-quality components, including a low-maintenance Gates carbon belt drive or alternatively a 10-speed Shimano Deore drive.

Framework concepts and sustainable production

Both models are available in both diamond and step-through frames and in different sizes to suit a wide range of users. The bikes are designed in such a way that they can be customised - from saddles to child seats and trailers. Ampler focusses on sustainability and local production. The bikes are assembled by hand in the company's own factory in Tallinn, which runs entirely on renewable energy. This local, sustainable production model emphasises the company's long-term commitment to environmental responsibility. The bikes in the Nova line have been developed with a wide range of users in mind - from commuters to senior citizens and busy parents.

Focus on repairability and durability

A key aspect of the new Nova models is their ease of repair and durability. Ampler favours bikes that are easy to maintain and can be used in everyday life without any problems. Standard components from established brands such as MicroSHIFT, Shimano, Gates, Continental, Panaracer and Selle Italia are used on the Nova and Nova Pro models. This means that the bikes can be serviced in almost any bike workshop in Europe, by Ampler service partners or even at home. The use of standard components not only facilitates repairs, but also contributes to the longevity of the bikes as spare parts are readily available. This approach is in line with Ampler's philosophy of building e-bikes that feel and handle like normal bikes - just with electric assistance.

Smart functions and connectivity

In addition to the innovative charging concept, the Nova models also offer extensive connectivity functions. GPS protection and monitoring as well as smart settings can be controlled via the Ampler app. This makes it possible to adjust riding parameters and keep an eye on speed and distance travelled. The bikes also have a weatherproof display in the frame that shows important information during the ride. The charger can also be used as a power source so that the e-bike can also be used to charge smaller devices such as a smartphone. These smart functions complement the well thought-out overall concept of the Nova range, which is geared towards suitability for everyday use and user-friendliness.

New leadership and vision for the future

With the Nova models, Ampler is not only setting new trends in terms of technology, but also strategically. The company has announced a new direction for 2025 that places a special focus on female riders - a group that is often underrepresented in the e-bike market. The newly appointed CEO Eva Raigo emphasises in this context

E-bikes need to reflect the diversity of their riders. It's time that we not only see more women on bikes, but also in their development.

This vision is reflected in the inclusive design of the Nova models, which are intended to appeal to a wide variety of users with different frame shapes and sizes. Ampler wants to make a contribution to a more diverse and inclusive cycling culture.
