The two new fitness bikes from Specialized Sirrus Carbon and Sirrus X Carbon are made for fast rides in the city and beyond.
Every frame size and geometry of Specialized's carbon bikes is individually designed instead of just "shrunk". The Californians call this approach "Rider-First Engineered". Tube lengths, diameters and carbon layups are selected according to size to achieve a good balance between strength, weight and responsiveness with the aim of creating "the best riding experience in the world - regardless of frame size". From a neutral editorial point of view, this statement should be taken with a grain of salt, but as soon as we have a test specimen available, we will be happy to be convinced in a practical test.
According to Specialized, the frame of the Sirrus Carbon is more comfortable than you would expect from such an agile bike. What's more, the bike is said to be relatively light - although no weight is specified in the press release. This makes it easy to climb stairs to the flat or cellar with the bike on your shoulders. According to Specialized, starting off on the Sirrus Carbon or Sirrus X Carbon is also lively.
Light, fast and flexible like modern life. The manufacturers also attribute these attributes to the bike. This includes the Future Shock damping technology and a compliant frame design. Future Shock is mounted above the head tube and yields vertically by up to 20 millimetres. This is intended to minimise the impact of road bumps on the handlebars and dampen hard impacts.
The new frame design of the Specialized Sirrus models catches the eye at first glance. Instead of a continuous seat tube, this only begins at the point where the low-set seat stays meet the seat tube. Opposite the seat stays is a cross connection to the down tube. This design should allow the frame to flex, iron out bumpy roads and ensure a comfortable yet sporty and stiff ride.
Not a bike for one gender, but a bike for all - gender-neutral. Kayla Clarot, Leader of Brand Concept, describes the message behind the design of the Sirrus as follows:
Fun, sportiness and comfort on two wheels. A timeless, unagitated look that dispenses with garish decals and colours - and also deliberately avoids gender connotations. This is our gender-neutral approach: unless there is a reason or performance advantage that can be proven in figures and data, we design bikes for the individual and not 'just' for women or men.
To achieve the desired riding experience, the Sirrus model range has been equipped with SRAM Eagle single-speed groupsets with hydraulic disc brakes.
The Sirrus Carbon X 5.0 is made for people who want to speed through the city and are adventurous at the same time. The bike is not only made for signposted cycle paths but also offers plenty of comfort on gravel, forest paths and more. The 38 millimetre Pathfinder tyres roll well on asphalt and offer traction on loose surfaces. However, if you mainly ride on rough terrain, it might be better to choose a gravel bike with wider tyres. The Roval Terra seat post offers additional comfort. The bike is powered by a SRAM NX Eagle groupset.
The Sirrus Carbon 6.0 version comes with a SRAM GX Eagle Lunar groupset and SRAM Level TLM brakes with 160 brake discs. The bike fits tyres up to 42 millimetres wide.
