The traditional brand Hercules is launching two city e-bikes in the Urbanico series. The top model, the Urbanico F3, focuses on a slim frame look and reduced drive technology. The model series consists of two variants with different gear concepts.
The Bafang rear-wheel motor delivers 50 Nm of torque and achieves up to 648 watts of power in the Hercules-exclusive Boost Plus mode. This function releases additional power for 30 seconds. The 3-speed automatic transmission integrated in the motor shifts gears automatically without manual intervention by the rider.
"The new Urbanico F3 is our most creative interpretation of an urban all-rounder. It is absolutely in tune with the times - whether it's to work in the morning, to the club in the evening or to the lake at the weekend. It combines an extremely light ride with smart automatic technology at an unbeatable price."
Chris Brechler, Product Management Hercules
Hercules uses a Gates carbon toothed belt instead of a classic bicycle chain. The combination of automatic gears and belt drive means that the user does not need to change gears or maintain the chain manually.
A 374 Wh battery sits in the down tube of the frame. It can be removed and locked. The integration in the frame contributes to the slim silhouette. The Urbanico F3 weighs 21.5 kg ready to ride. Hydraulic disc brakes and Schwalbe Marathon tyres are part of the standard equipment. LED lights, pannier rack, mudguards and a kickstand are fitted.
It is controlled via a reduced display. A Bafang app enables additional functions via smartphone. Hercules offers the Urbanico F3 in three frame shapes, three sizes and two colour variants. The frame has several mounting points for accessories.
The Urbanico 8 uses a Bafang rear wheel motor with 45 Nm torque. Instead of the automatic transmission, Hercules uses a Shimano 8-speed derailleur gear system. The 374 Wh battery corresponds to that of the F3 model. The entry-level model costs 1,999 euros. Both models are now available from specialist dealers.
The Hercules Urbanico F3 is clearly positioned as a city bike for comfort-orientated commuters. The combination of automatic transmission, low-maintenance belt drive and compact weight of 21.5 kg is aimed at users who want to use their e-bike as easily as possible.
At 50 Nm, the Bafang motor offers solid pulling power for city traffic, but is below the 60 to 85 Nm of many mid-motor competitors. The 648-watt boost function compensates for this when starting off at traffic lights or on short climbs.
The price of 2,499 euros is in the mid-range segment. Comparable belt-driven e-bikes with automatic transmission usually start at €2,800 upwards. The Urbanico F3 offers a harmonious overall package - provided that the application profiles match the reduced number of gears and moderate battery capacity.
