The Canyon Grizl:On CF Daily is perfect for commuting to the office - even across the fields. But our winner in the test of lightweight e-bikes up to 20 kilos is not too bad for excursions and adventures either.

Topics in this article

Noble, helpful and good? The Canyon Grizl:On CF Daily fulfils at least the first requirement directly: the new carbon frame looks organic, as if softly shaped, with some light edges providing elegant forms. It contributes to the low weight of 18.1 kilos despite the "full equipment plus". The fine metallic paintwork rounds off the whole thing. Integrated over a large area is the new Bosch SX motor. Everything fits into the overall picture like the specially developed frame bag fits into the triangle.

Even the very slim pannier rack with Ortlieb adapters (15 kg load) fits into the picture. The SX from Bosch is certainly helpful: few others achieve such a natural power delivery at sporty pedalling frequencies, and the 55 Nm of torque seem to increase on the climbs. Starting at traffic lights? It starts quickly, but without brute force. The support modes are selected via a panel on the top tube - or via an app on the mobile phone, for which a holder is already attached to the handlebars.

Canyon Grizl:On CF Daily: Gravel for e-commuters

We actually liked everything about the bike: the high beam switch for the great Lupine light, the fine Rockshox Rudy suspension fork for comfort on dirt tracks and broken roads - the best terrain for the Schwalbe Overland tyres - or the inconspicuously damping suspension seat post, which defuses the worst impacts. Even the mudguards harmonise with the bike and its intended use. It all comes together beautifully when riding.

How do you like this article?

A great feeling of safety on the handlebars, well-balanced handling tuned for straight-line stability with a tendency towards fast, long corners, strong, easy to modulate discs - office, here I come, just one more diversions on the gravel road! Smart is that the bike also has digital anti-theft protection and a tracking function. The navigation options (via mobile phone) have also been upgraded by Bosch. What's missing? The kickstand! A little complicated to design on a carbon frame, as the Canyon man explains. But if you buy a gravel commuter bike for 5499 euros, you should be able to park it!

Conclusion on the lightweight Canyon Grizl:On CF e-bike in the test

Riding pleasure meets equipment highlights: If you can handle the drop bar, the Canyon Grizl:On CF Daily is a fascinating bike for commuting, leisure and adventure all in one. Our test-winning bike!
