The Estonian manufacturer Ampler presents the next evolutionary stage of its minimalist E-bikes Curt. We tested the predecessor model here. After years of further development, the model returns as the brand's lightest and most sophisticated bike to date. The new edition features an integrated USB-C charging port directly on the frame, a new carbon fork, two drive options, revised electronics and the company's most advanced frame integration to date. With a starting weight of 14.1 kilograms, the Curt is positioned as the lightest e-bike in the Ampler portfolio and is aimed at design-conscious urban riders who value a purist appearance and modern technology at the same time.
According to the manufacturer, the Curt embodies the design philosophy "form follows function" and is based on the principles of Bauhaus. Every line, every weld and every surface is deliberately designed, with every detail having its purpose. The double-butted aluminium frame with inconspicuous weld seams and balanced geometry is intended to provide a riding experience that is both stable and almost weightless. The new lightweight carbon fork with optimised fibre structure dampens vibrations for smoother handling, a direct ride feel and noticeable precision in every bend. According to Ampler, the Curt can be ridden as relaxed as a normal bike and also offers the gentle support of the almost silent motor whenever you want.
The technical revision centres on the new USB-C charging system directly on the frame - the first of its kind in the e-bike world, according to Ampler. A single cable charges your laptop, smartphone and bike. Thanks to the 140 watt quick-charging function, the Curt is fully charged in just 2.5 hours. The battery system has been redeveloped with state-of-the-art cells for a longer service life, greater reliability and constant performance. But the real revolution is even deeper: a new electronic core, developed entirely in-house by Ampler's engineering team. This so-called ABC module combines Bluetooth, GPS and mobile phone connectivity as well as smart diagnostics in a waterproof system designed to ensure quiet, stable operation in all conditions. Using the Ampler app, you can adjust the level of support precisely to your own rhythm - from a gentle push to full electric relief.
The Curt is available with two different drive options: a single-speed version with a low-maintenance Gates carbon belt or an 11-speed gear system from Shimano for more control. Both variants are supported by a 250 watt rear hub motor with 45 Newton metres of torque and a 336 watt hour LG Li-ion battery. The manufacturer specifies a range of up to 100 kilometres, depending on the terrain and support level selected. The frame is now prepared for the installation of a stand, which enables two configurations: The "Blank" version concentrates on the essentials and comes without mudguards, pannier rack or stand. The "Equipped" version, on the other hand, comes with accessories already fitted and offers practical suitability for everyday use straight from the factory.
Each Curt is handmade in Estonia and tested to withstand thousands of kilometres of vibration, rain and real everyday use with ease. Ampler emphasises its confidence in its own quality with a four-year guarantee and a 30-day return policy.
"Curt is the clearest expression of our design philosophy. Every element has a purpose. No more, no less. With this update, we have taken something iconic and developed it further for today. It's the same Curt, just perfected." Eva Raigo, CEO of Ampler
