The Koblenz-based mail-order company is launching three new children's MTBs on the market for the new season: the 16, 20 and 24-inch bikes aim to impress with useful details and a good price-performance ratio.

Canyon wants to ensure one thing above all with its MTB fleet for the next generation: That the kids have fun. That's why all three new children's bikes have a low standover height for plenty of safety and a relatively flat 68 steering angle to increase smoothness. All bikes also have hydraulic Sram Level disc brakes. These not only offer more power, but are also easier to modulate than V-brakes and do not become sluggish over time.

Canyon would not be Canyon if the bikes had nothing innovative. That's why rubber protectors protect the stem, for example, to prevent injuries. In addition, the mail-order company installs its own grips with an external flange so that hands are not shaken off the handlebars. As children's eyes are also important, all bikes are available in a factory look and another colour. On the Berlin Bicycle Show (3 to 5 March) the bikes can already be tested extensively.

The bikes come in specially developed bike guards (included in the price) including tools for assembly: The Torque Wrench torque spanner ensures that you don't overtighten any screws, and the flat pedals supplied can be fitted using the pedal spanner. There is also an adjustment aid for the correct saddle height. Both Offspring models will be available from the last week of March, the Grand Canyon from the first week of May. Just in time for the bike season.

The smallest riders (98 to 110 centimetres tall) get the most innovative bike: the Offspring AL 16 has a 16-inch rear wheel and an 18-inch front wheel. This should make it easier to overcome obstacles while keeping the standover height low. The Sram Automatix changes the two gears automatically. The handlebar measures 450 millimetres. The 7.9-kilo bike costs 499 euros.

As the name suggests, the big brother of the Offspring AL 16 rolls on 20-inch tyres. It weighs in at 8.8 kilograms and costs 699 euros. The AL 20 should suit children between 1.1 and 1.25 metres best. Thru axles hold the wheels in the frame, just like on adult bikes. A Sram X4 shifts through the nine gears.

Canyon Grand Canyon AL 24

The Grand Canyon AL 24 is available for the taller kids (120 to 153 centimetres). Like the other children's bikes, it rolls on Joytech rims and Kenda tyres. The equipment is completed by a Spinner air suspension fork with 65 millimetres of travel and a Sram X4 gear system with nine gears. The mountain bike weighs 10.6 kilos and costs 799 euros.
