We, on the other hand, first looked at the suspension, because this is where a fully for kids has to prove itself! Interesting: The Ripcord is equipped with a 26-inch fork. Reason: On the one hand, this made it possible to realise the desired 100 mm suspension travel. On the other hand, this opens up many tuning options, for example by fitting a lighter fork. The 24-inch frame geometry was designed around the fork, so to speak. With just 20 to 30 psi air pressure in the fork, the sag and performance were just right for the 38-kilo test rider. But even for lighter riders and with even less pressure, the Rockshox Recon works sensitively. We were very impressed by the harmony with the finely responsive rear suspension. The shock sits in a solid rocker and the finish of the Ripcord is a feast for the eyes. The bike's wide range of use is also pleasing: the 100-millimetre suspension can cope with trips to the bike park, yet the Pilot is equipped for touring and trails with 11 to 36 teeth on the 10-speed cassette. Only the high weight of 13.3 kilos dampened the good mood of the test rider. There is certainly room for improvement here with tuning. However, this would require further (painful) investment.
Conclusion The Ripcord is fully convincing in terms of riding technique. A great all-rounder that can be used early on thanks to its low standover height. Unfortunately, the standard equipment is a little heavy.
