Scott's successful machine, shrunk down to children's dimensions, with full equipment and the option to grow with you. The Scott Ransom 400 can be ridden from a height of 1.25 metres and is primarily aimed at young park riders. The 400 in the name stands for the version with 24-inch wheels. The other way round is also possible: as the Scott Ransom 600, the children's MTB comes with 26-inch wheels. If a little bike novice grows up, it can be downsized with the 24-inch wheelset.
The suspension elements from X-Fusion are noticeably adapted to children's weights - the response behaviour on the trails is excellent. Measured against the bike size, the suspension travel is as enduro as the adult model: 140 millimetres at the front and 130 millimetres at the rear. Geometry and add-on parts such as the cranks (127 mm) are tailored to the needs of smaller riders.
The bike was in great demand during the test. The Scott developers have clearly struck a chord with the kids here. The Ransom is not only stylish, but also thoroughly functional. The geometry and composition are well thought out from front to back - which is not always the case with big brands. Only the weight could be lower, but even that didn't bother our little testers. The "want to have" was so pronounced that the bike was unanimously rated as "light".
The overall performance of the Scott Ransom 400 puts the price of 2199 euros into perspective. Of course, that's a lot of money for a children's bike, but the bike is actually good value for money for the performance it offers, as the upgrade to 26-inch wheels extends the service life by two years. The resale value is likely to be high. Above all, the short frame length sets limits to the growth of the bike. After all, a system weight of up to 80 kilograms is permitted.
The bike rides great and, above all, looks very cool. Both are important to me. I would take it straight away!
