The Kubikes Trail 26 is a stylish 26-inch touring and trail bike from one of the classic niche suppliers of children's bikes, offered as a modular bike and assembled in Germany. Our test configuration around the no-frills, powder-coated aluminium frame has the lowest total weight in the test: 9.9 kilograms. The wheels with butted spokes are also the lightest in the comparison. Equipped in this way, the bike costs 1445 euros and is approved for a system weight of up to 60 kilos.
The geometry is classic: 69 degree head angle, a relatively long head tube, 73 degree seat angle and a short reach. If you are around 1.40 metres or taller, the Kubikes Trail 26 is suitable for the next generation, so it is not necessarily intended for the earliest possible transition to 26 inches. Apart from the wheels, the high-quality 1x11 XT drivetrain with a range of 11-46 teeth stands out. Only the crank is a simple no-name model with a child-friendly length of 150 millimetres - unfortunately, cranks of this length are not available from the shifting giant Shimano.
The modular system enables comprehensive customisation and adaptation to the intended use. Without the well-functioning suspension fork and with the simplest equipment, the price of the Kubike Trail 26 falls below 1000 euros and the weight below nine kilos - the lightest configuration is specified at 7.5 kilos. Anyone looking for a sporty touring or trail bike will find what they are looking for here.
The bike worked well, but I had more fun with the fullys and was significantly faster.
