Scott Scale JR 20 Plus - Kids bike test
Thick plus-size tyres for skinny kids' legs - does that make sense? We let our June testers loose on the Scott Scale.

For adults, the reaction to the Scott children's bike was always the same: Plus tyres for kids? Far too heavy and cumbersome! BIKE editor Henri Lesewitz was all the more surprised when his son made friends with the chubby little bike straight away. On trail excursions in the forest at home, the Scale Jr proved to be fast and lively, and there was no discernible disadvantage compared to thinner tyres, even in direct comparison with a much more expensive 20-inch model. The concept of replacing an expensive and heavy suspension fork with low air pressure and lots of tyre volume works. The juniors corner over roots and stones with playful confidence, the wide tyres obviously inspire confidence. At 10.2 kilos, the 20-inch bike does not make it into the ranks of the super-light speedsters, but this is more due to the price than the bulky tyres. For 359 euros, Scott offers a well thought-out and all-terrain concept. No unnecessary weight, a pleasantly wide handlebar and matching parts. By the way: The massive tyres not only bring advantages off-road, they are also really well received by the youngsters and make the Scale Jr 20 Plus a cool must-have vehicle.
