Plenty of suspension travel at a low weight: With the Moritz kids' bike, the junior specialist VPace aims to create a mix that many manufacturers have struggled with so far.

With the Max hardtails the children's bike specialist VPace has created a fleet of lightweight, all-terrain bikes for children in recent years. The young brand from Lake Constance is committed to the "29er concept": relatively large wheels in a compact frame. The aim is for youngsters to enjoy the same advantages that adults get from 29ers from an early age. At the BIKE Festival in Riva, the company from Lake Constance will be presenting a full-suspension prototype.

With a good 120 millimetres of suspension travel, the 26-inch bike is designed to allow children from 135 centimetres tall and around 25 kilos to enjoy full-blown off-road excursions. "Converted to adult size, this corresponds to around 160 millimetres of suspension travel," says company founder Sören Zieher. "This means the little ones are equipped for everything, right up to the bike park." The weight should remain at a child-friendly 10.5 kilos.

The facts: Thru axle on front and rear wheel, 66 mm steering angle, 425 mm chainstays, 160 mm brake discs. The bike will be available in various versions with Fox or Suntour suspension, with or without telescopic seat post. There is a choice of 11-speed or 12-speed Srams GX1 gears. All this comes at a price: the Moritz is expected to cost around 2000 euros. If everything goes smoothly, the speedster should be available from late summer 2017.

Professionally, the experienced test editor now focusses on e-mountainbikes. In recent years, the qualified sports scientist and trained journalist has tested over 300 bikes and more than 40 different motor systems in the laboratory and in practice.
