29ers also for small riders?
At what height does it make sense to ride a 29er bike? BIKE test manager Christoph Listmann explains.

Question from Salvatore S.: Can you make a recommendation as to what height and/or stride length 29er bikes are suitable for smaller people? Brand manufacturers also offer frames from 16 inches, but I'm a bit critical here. Is the ratio of rider to bike still right? I would like to buy a hardtail soon and could really use this tip. (Height 166 cm; inseam 79.5 cm)

Answer from Christoph Listmann, BIKE Test Manager: Although racing cyclist Willow Koerber (photo above) successfully rides 29ers at 1.57 metres (bronze at the World Championships), we only recommend the big bikes from a height of just under 1.70 metres. With your measurements, I would say: try it out and then decide. Our lab manager (1.67 metres) is happy with his 16.5-inch 29er. It also depends on what you want to do with the bike and what price range you are interested in. For less than 1500 euros, I would definitely recommend a 26-inch hardtail, as it is significantly lighter and more agile.
