In bright "Radioactive Green", the Farley 8 wobbles unstoppably over the trails and offers a good compromise between sport and touring. Even tubeless wheels are on board. But the brake discs...

The fat bike from Trek has by far the lightest aluminium frame (1855 g) and, on top of that, relatively light and even tubeless-compatible wheels. With these key data, the Farley remains under the 14-kilo mark without pedals, which is reflected in good acceleration and agile handling. The riding position is also impressive. Despite the very short seat tube and low standover height, the Trek is not too short or even squat. A successful compromise between sport and touring. The short chainstays make it easier to lift the front wheel. The 30 mm single chainring makes really steep and long climbs more difficult. Despite the 3.8-inch imprint, the well-rolling Bontrager tyres are no narrower than the 4.0-inch Schwalbe tyres. On long, steep descents, the small brake discs reduce confidence in the bike.

ConclusionThe Farley 8 is the best aluminium model among fat bikes. The riding position, handling and weight are absolutely impressive.

PLUS Lightweight frame, low overall weight, good geometry
MINUS Small brake discs, large chainring
