The Koblenz-based company wants to create a "Swiss army knife on two wheels" with its new Ca Go CS cargo bike. The new cargo bike cannot be folded, but with its frame construction and diverse loading options, it comes pretty close to being a flexible all-rounder.
Compared to the Long John cargo bike, the CS is much more compact with a length of 2.04 metres and a width of 480 mm and fits quickly. The ergonomically variable geometry with a flat seat angle and an individually adjustable stem ensures a comfortable riding position. This means that the Ca Go CS can be ridden by almost anyone between 1.65 m and 2.00 m tall.
The effortless handling in particular ensures driving pleasure. Natural steering behaviour, a small turning circle for easy manoeuvring and good cornering even at higher speeds are made possible by the Ca Go CS's decoupled, redundant cable steering system. The double cable pulls - which Ca Go has relied on from the outset for safety reasons - are low-wear and easy to maintain. Speaking of safety: the aluminium frame also offers plenty of reserves, such as a reinforced seat tube support, shaped and large-volume tube profiles or an integrated kickstand mount.
Despite its compact design, the Ca Go CS can carry a decent load. The triple load space concept of the CS allows a simple and centre of gravity-optimised load of up to 75 kg, with a maximum permissible total weight of 180 kg: 18 kg can be placed on the front luggage rack, 30 kg in the middle and 27 kg on the rear luggage rack. All three loading areas offer numerous lashing options for reliable load securing. The front and rear carriers also have a universal click system for the uncomplicated attachment of a wide range of accessories such as various bike bags and child seats.
However, the focus of the Ca Go CS is the new main loading area - the centre rack. With its basic dimensions of 400 x 330 mm, optimised for everyday use, the centre rack offers sufficient space for standardised transport goods such as Euro boxes, drinks crates, etc. The low centre of gravity between the wheels ensures stable and manoeuvrable handling.
To increase riding comfort, Ca Go has given its City Utility Vehicle cargo bike-specific components. The SR Suntour Cargo 20" Moby 34 suspension fork and the robust, rigid 20-inch wheels are designed to absorb shocks, while the special Schwalbe Pick-Up Cargobike tyres offer reliable puncture protection and high traction, ensuring a dynamic, safe riding experience.
The Ca Go CS electric cargo bike is powered as standard by the Bosch Cargo Line Smart System, consisting of a drive unit, PowerPack 545 Wh battery, LED remote control unit and the eBike Flow app. Above 25 km/h, the motor and transmission are decoupled so that the cargo bike can still be ridden fairly smoothly even without motor assistance.
Ca Go has integrated the battery in such a way that it can be easily removed at the touch of a button and charged when installed or removed. The charge level indicator is visible and can therefore be read reliably at all times. The Bosch PowerPack 725 Wh battery, Bosch Kiox 300 display, Bosch Smartphone Grip and Bosch Connect module are available as options.
MYBIKE was one of the first magazines to see and test two prototypes of the new Ca Go CS before its launch.
We rode the bike with the platform loaded and unloaded. In fact, the difference in handling is minimal: the bike is extremely easy to handle with and without prior practice and steers safely into every bend. There is no rocking, as we know it from the classic loaded carrier.
The transmission of the steering impulse from the handlebar dome to the steering head via the cable integrated in the front frame takes some getting used to. Sensitive riders will feel that the steering is transmitted via traction, but this does not affect the handling. A major advantage when parking and manoeuvring: The front wheel can be turned at an almost 90-degree angle.
Comfort: A suspension fork and tyres with a full 65 millimetre width absorb a lot of shocks. Everyday function Family suitability: Thanks to the wide adjustable stem and flat seat angle, the CS adapts to the whole family.
The Bosch Cargo Line drive ensures flow when travelling with or without luggage. Instead of the standard 545 watt-hour battery, a 725 watt-hour battery can soon be selected for more range. A child can be transported on the rear pannier rack - an accessory on the basic model - with an appropriate seat (up to 27 kilograms). Panniers can also be attached to the front carrier in the same way as over the rear wheel. Both carriers are equipped with system adapters so that a child seat, basket or box can be attached quickly and easily with a click. There will also be accessories from Ca Go itself: A rain cover for the front luggage platform, a small glove compartment, a cover for a small parts compartment and more.
Conclusion: With the Ca Go CS, the Koblenz-based manufacturer has created a highly flexible, compact cargo bike. The perfect adaptability to every form of load transport in everyday life and to different rider sizes could be a reason for many families to ditch the car and switch to a bike.
