Full fat: 11 cool 2020 fat bikes
True fans always do it anyway, for others fat biking is very popular in the off-season. Here are the most exciting fat bikes of 2020, with everything from titanium frames to carbon fullys.

About five years ago, the boom FatbikesThe Pummel tyres deliver a huge amount of comfort and can also burrow through deep sand pits. You could ride your bike where others had long been pushing. In one nine fatbikes had to compete in the big BIKE comparison test at the time - including Canyon, Rocky Mountain, Scott and Trek. But after just two years, the MTB industry realised: The masses will never crank through the terrain on tyres up to 4.8 inches wide, as they are simply too sluggish. Some manufacturers cancelled their fat bikes, while others continued to sell the specialists.

We provide an overview of fat tyre bikes that, in our opinion, offer exciting concepts: from titanium frames to classic hardtails and carbon full-suspension bikes, everything is represented. Even though fat bikes have never made the big breakthrough, there is a dedicated fat bike fan community that ploughs through the terrain on fat bikes all year round.

The original idea behind fatbikes: to ride (even further) in the nastiest conditions. That's where a low-maintenance Pinion gearbox makes sense. The frame of the MiTech Tyke P1 Fat can be purchased for 2500 euros with a 12-speed gearbox. The speciality of the small forge MiTech: the Dortmund-based company can produce a custom geometry on request. Paint finishes are of course customised. A flip chip in the rear dropout adjusts the geometry accordingly. The US mail order company with the bear logo achieves a low Q-factor because the crank rotates in an 83 millimetre narrow press-fit bottom bracket. And because 83 mm cranks are not so common, Otso also supplies a matching Race Face part in the form of the "Frankset" (frameset + crankset), which costs the equivalent of just under 2200 euros. In the online configurator, you can select the add-on parts for the complete bikes (from just under 3100 euros) as required - for example a running fork. With four-inch wide Schwalbe tyres, the Voytek should only weigh 11.5 kilos - thanks to the rigid carbon fork.Photo: Kao HerVersatility is key: the brand new Otso Voytek fits 26-inch fat bike tyres as well as 27.5-inch and 29-inch plus tyres and, of course, normal 29er tyres.
