About five years ago, the boom FatbikesThe Pummel tyres deliver a huge amount of comfort and can also burrow through deep sand pits. You could ride your bike where others had long been pushing. In one nine fatbikes had to compete in the big BIKE comparison test at the time - including Canyon, Rocky Mountain, Scott and Trek. But after just two years, the MTB industry realised: The masses will never crank through the terrain on tyres up to 4.8 inches wide, as they are simply too sluggish. Some manufacturers cancelled their fat bikes, while others continued to sell the specialists.
We provide an overview of fat tyre bikes that, in our opinion, offer exciting concepts: from titanium frames to classic hardtails and carbon full-suspension bikes, everything is represented. Even though fat bikes have never made the big breakthrough, there is a dedicated fat bike fan community that ploughs through the terrain on fat bikes all year round.
