The fat bike specialist Salsa has three models with huge fat tyres in its range, which have now been re-equipped and given a visual update with new colours. An overview.

New frame colours and gears: Salsa is giving its fatbike fleet a facelift. We show you the new models.

Fatbike racing: Salsa Beargrease

With a total weight of around 12.5 kilos and lots of carbon, the Salsa Beargrease is the most minimalist of Salsa's fat bikes. Amazingly fast and finely finished, but also very expensive, it is the bike of choice for fast fatbike laps in snow or sand - preferably against the clock. Compatibility with telescopic seat posts (internal cable routing) and 100 mm suspension forks rounds off the package for trail bikers. According to the manufacturer, the frame kit should weigh less than 2.5 kilograms.

Changeable: Salsa Mukluk

The Mukluk is also available with a carbon or aluminium frame. It falls into the versatile all-rounder category and offers even more eyelets, numerous tyre options thanks to interchangeable dropouts and the option of mounting front derailleurs and 2x drivetrains. Complete bikes based on the carbon frame, which weighs a good 2.7 kilos, weigh from around 13.5 kilos, while aluminium models almost reach the 15-kilo mark. Also compatible with telescopic seat posts and 100 mm suspension forks.

Sebastian Brust was born in 1979 and was originally socialised on his grandmother's folding bike, but has mainly been riding studded tyres since his fifth birthday. Loves all kinds of bikes - and merging with nature. Believes that disc brakes are much safer today than they were 15 years ago and thinks he has helped with his brake and pad tests. However, the trained vehicle technology engineer very much regrets that the bicycle industry is orientating itself on what he considers to be the wrong ideals of the car industry. At BIKE, he corrects, produces and organises digital content on the website.
