Anyone can experience great things every day - a bike makes it possible. You don't necessarily need complicated high-end suspension and elaborate training plans to storm towards the summits. Our themed special reveals how easy it can be to get into mountain biking.
Which bike suits me? Hardtail or fully, cheap or expensive? Beginners are often hopelessly overwhelmed. And the dealers? We tested what the sales professionals have to offer. We came up with the following usage profile: 1500 to 2500 euros, suitable for tours in the foothills of the Alps, flow lines in bike parks and the home trail. With these specifications, we went into three consultations disguised as beginners to find the perfect bike.
We were amazed when we were faced with a choice of three completely different bikes after an online consultation and two conversations in local shops: The dealers' recommendations ranged from a 1000-euro hardtail to a 130-millimetre touring fully for around 2360 euros to a 2000-euro carbon race file. You can read the whole story in the "Simply biking" special, which you can download in the download box at the bottom of the article.
Although the result of the advice check only reflects three random samples and in no way reflects normality in the bicycle trade, it amazed us. Not every salesperson knows what they are talking about. Bike shows in the big themed special "Easy biking" how you can still get the model of your dreams with a little preparatory work and recognise the possible ignorance of some specialists.

Why not free of charge? Because quality journalism has a price. In return, we guarantee independence and objectivity. This applies in particular to the tests in BIKE. We don't pay for them, but the opposite is the case: we charge for them, hundreds of thousands of euros every year.
