Anyone who buys an e-bike and spends several thousand euros on it wants to protect it against theft in the best possible way. Bosch is now extending its digital theft protection to batteries for greater security. Bosch is presenting Battery Lock at CES 2025 in Las Vegas. The new system is designed to ensure that stolen e-bike batteries are rendered unusable and therefore worthless to thieves. The new system complements Bosch's established security mechanisms eBike Lock and eBike Alarm.

Gregor Dasbach, Head of Digital Business at Bosch eBike Systems, explains: "The battery is one of the most valuable components of an eBike. With Battery Lock, we are offering users an intelligent security function that helps to secure the battery even better against theft and make parking the eBike more carefree. This expansion of our digital protection portfolio brings us closer to our vision: no eBike equipped with a Bosch system should ever be stolen again."

Digital protection with battery lock

Mechanically secured removable batteries are to be given additional digital protection with Battery Lock. As soon as this function is activated in Bosch's eBike Flow app, the battery locks automatically when the bike is switched off. If a locked battery is inserted into another compatible system, it immediately deactivates its motor support - making both resale and use impossible. This is intended to deter thieves.

Compatibility and flexibility of Battery Lock

It is possible to use several digital keys at the same time. Users can manage or deactivate these keys flexibly - for example to share the battery with friends or family members, according to Bosch. The function is also compatible with all battery types available in the smart system and supports DualBatteries and the PowerMore 250 range extender.

Helpful: In the event of theft, the "theft report" summarises all the important data about the eBike and the crime - this can then be handed over to the police, including a live tracking link.

Bosch Battery Lock: Availability

From summer 2025, Battery Lock will be available as part of a paid Flow+ subscription and can be installed on any Bosch smart system.
