If you want to ride trails at night, you need lights in front of the handlebars. Ordinary commuter lights are not enough. That's why we tested the Swedish Silva Spectra A light. However, the word light is a gross understatement here - with a claimed 10,000 lumens, it is a floodlight.
We didn't measure the luminous flux, but in the highest of the five modes, not only is the trail as bright as day, but the whole forest. The light spreads very widely. For a lot of speed, you would like to focus the light cone into the distance - but this is not possible. Due to the high weight and the size of the lamp head, the Spectra A is not really suitable as a helmet lamp.
What's more, at this price, you would expect a higher-quality bracket that locks more securely. The latter does not work perfectly when attached to the handlebars, where the large lamp makes more sense. The 546 gram battery can be strapped to the top tube or stowed in a rucksack.
Annoying: The battery charge level is only displayed when plugged in. There is no control button.
The modes can be selected using the remote lever. The operating time at a frosty -5 degrees is specified as one hour in the highest mode. That's about right.
