Radar technology for greater safety

With the Signal Radar, BBB Cycling is launching a rear light on the market that combines lighting with radar technology. The Dutch company developed the device for racing cyclists who want to minimise their Road safety want to increase their safety. The radar technology detects approaching vehicles at a great distance and warns the driver of potential dangers in good time.

The system works with a range of up to 190 metres and can track eight different objects simultaneously. This monitoring capacity makes it possible to recognise both cars and other cyclists approaching from behind. The radar technology works regardless of lighting and weather conditions, making it suitable for use all year round.

Automatic light adjustment and warning system

As soon as the radar detects an approaching object, an enhanced flash mode is automatically activated. This warning flash is designed to increase the attention of following road users and reduce the risk of accidents. The 80-lumen daylight is suitable for use in bright sunlight, while special auto mode settings adapt the light intensity to the ambient conditions.

The warning system works via several channels simultaneously. Connected bike computers or smartphones receive real-time warnings about the detected objects. An integrated loudspeaker enables acoustic warnings even without connected devices. This redundancy ensures that riders are warned in different situations, regardless of whether they are looking at their display or wearing headphones.

Connectivity and app integration

The connection to external devices is made via ANT+ and Bluetooth standards. This dual connectivity ensures compatibility with most modern bike computers and smartphones. Together with Cannondale, BBB Cycling has developed a special app that simplifies the setup and use of the radar system.

The app allows you to configure various warning settings and light modes. Drivers can set the distance at which warnings should be triggered and the intensity of the light reaction. Six different operating modes are available, which can be adapted to different driving situations. Standalone operation via the integrated loudspeaker also works without an app connection.

Battery life and practical features

The Signal Radar achieves a maximum battery life of 14 hours in continuous operation. This runtime varies depending on the selected light mode and the frequency of radar activations. Intensive use in busy areas with frequent warnings reduces the operating time, while quiet country road journeys allow the maximum running time.

With a weight of 78 grams, the device remains unnoticed on the bike even on longer rides. It is mounted using standard seat post or frame mounts. The housing was designed for outdoor use and is resistant to rain, dirt and vibrations. The compact dimensions also allow mounting on aerodynamic racing bikes without impairing the air flow.

Areas of application and target groups

The Signal Radar is primarily aimed at road cyclists who regularly train on busy roads. The system offers a safety advantage over conventional rear lights, particularly in urban areas with heavy traffic. The early warning enables riders to react to approaching vehicles in good time and adjust their position on the carriageway if necessary.

The system also offers advantages for cyclists travelling in unfamiliar areas. In countries with different traffic cultures, the warnings can help to adapt to local driving habits. The automatic light adjustment ensures that visibility is optimised even without active intervention by the rider. The EU retail price is 139.95 euros.
