Mucked up the time, played too long at the dirt spot, chose the trail loop too long - it happens again and again and suddenly the light is gone. Good for getting home and for your own safety: a powerful light. Would the Knog Blinder 700 be something? We'll tell you. The Knog Blinder 700 is an aluminium bone that can be easily clipped onto a simple handlebar mount. This is incredibly practical, because you can remove the stylish milled aluminium part without fiddling around - store it away, use it as a torch or connect it to the USB port to charge the internal lithium polymer battery. Another easy feature of the screw mount: the direction of the beam can be changed with a flick of the wrist.

The light has three modes. High (120 lx; light duration: 2.5 hours), Medium (70 lx; light duration: 4 hours), Low (40 lx; light duration: 8.5 hours). It is waterproof, can be charged via USB as described and has a battery indicator that changes from green to orange and then red.

The 120 does not stand for lumen, but lux. Background knowledge: Lux (lx) and lumen are units for measuring light. In contrast to lumen, lux takes the area into account. Lux is used to determine the intensity of light over an illuminated area, i.e. 1 lux corresponds to 1 lumen per m2.

In practice, this means that the light shower of the Knog Blinder 700 is easily sufficient for trail riding. It doesn't come close to the extreme flak headlights such as the Lupine Piko or Sigma Buster, which emit 2000 lumens - but that's logical. But the large calibres also cost up to three times as much. Tip: The Sigma Buster is reduced by half on the Internet - close to the Knog's RRP - for those who want more power.

Conclusion on the Knog Blinder 700

We liked the robust, easy-to-handle Knog Blinder 700 once we had got used to the somewhat hard, rectangular light cone. It got us safely over the trails in winter and always signalled in good time how much juice was left in the battery with the battery charging light.
