The joint development by iXS and Ritchie Schley took three years. The result is a helmet that should be the ideal helmet for the majority of bikers. The Trail RS should be almost as well ventilated as an XC helmet, but offer considerably more protection, especially at the back of the head and temples. iXS is thus following the current trend that manufacturers such as Giro with the Feature and Bell with the Super have already embarked upon.
Structure and features
The Trail RS is manufactured using the inmould process and has 22 ventilation openings. All-mountain bikers and enduro riders climb the mountains under their own steam and don't want to drown in their own sweat, even on long climbs. In addition, a helmet naturally only provides protection if it is actually worn and not dangling from the handlebars as a decorative object. iXS wants to prevent this and guarantees sufficient cooling through generous ventilation holes.
Most current AM helmets are characterised by a slightly larger visor. It primarily protects against sunlight, but is also designed to keep dust and foreign objects away from the face. To ensure that this is guaranteed in all conceivable riding situations, the height of the Trail RS visor can be adjusted. In the event of a fall, a release mechanism is designed to prevent the shield from splintering or breaking.
Of course, the helmet should also be able to be optimally adjusted to the rider's head. The so-called Ergo-Fit Ultra system can be adjusted in height in three steps and closes the head ring via an easily accessible dial. A Y-clip allows the straps to be perfectly aligned under the earlobes.
The Trail RS is said to weigh around 320 grams. A total of four colours are available, each in two shell sizes (SM 54-58/ML 58-62 cm). The Ritchie Schley signature helmet will be available in shops from September. One model is already on its way to the editorial office and we are looking forward to seeing the first practical impressions.
