Leatt has presented a new MTB helmet. The Gravity 6.0 Carbon bike helmet comes with a number of protective technologies designed to ensure advanced safety on the mountain bike. Compared to its predecessor, much but not everything is new.

Topics in this article

With the new bike helmet Gravity 6.0 Carbon Leatt wants to take a further step towards mountain bike rider safety. Things can quickly go wrong on wild drops or jumps - and when things really go wrong, the head needs to be particularly well protected. The new MTB Gravity helmet from Leatt has numerous features designed to improve head protection in the event of a crash on a mountain bike. The outer shape of the Gravity 6.0 is similar to that of the 4.0, but in addition to the tried and tested features, Leatt has integrated a number of innovations into the new Gravity helmet.

Leatt Gravity 6.0 Carbon: New carbon shell

On the one hand, the new M-Forge carbon shell should weigh less than the previous material. It is also said to be more environmentally friendly to produce. According to the manufacturer, the carbon shell is made from a thermoplastic material that is said to be less brittle and more flexible than conventional composite materials. The DH-certified helmet offers 22 ventilation openings and a removable mouthpiece ventilation cover, which is designed to ensure optimum airflow.

The new inner lining comes with a whole host of features: It is said to be moisture-wicking, breathable, odour-inhibiting and washable, so the Dri-Lex material is probably suitable for all conditions. The Leatt Gravity 6.0 also has a neck roll. As usual, the visor with predetermined breaking point increases safety for the wearer by reducing rotational forces in the event of a fall. The new Gravity helmet now uses DoubleD instead of Fidlock for the buckle. The semi-transparent visor extension is also new.

Leatt 360° Turbine Technology: proprietary technology for better impact protection

Like the existing Leatt MTB helmets, the Gravity 6.0 Carbon is also equipped with 360° Turbine Technology. The system developed by Leatt uses a network of small discs made from an energy-absorbing material.

The main purpose of this is to reduce the rotational acceleration of the head in the event of a fall and dampen the forces on impact.

Thanks to the 360° range of movement of these discs, this technology should offer two advantages: It should help to reduce the rotational acceleration of the head and brain and dampen the forces of an impact so that the impact force does not exceed that of a concussion. The Leatt Gravity 6.0 uses two types of impact protection foam for this purpose. EPS and EPO are used in two different densities. This is intended to cope with various levels of impact forces - from slow falls to high-speed impacts.

Leatt Gravity 6.0 Carbon: The new features at a glance

  • Moto-style inner lining with neck roll. Moisture-wicking, breathable, odour-inhibiting and washable Dri-Lex materials
  • M-Forge Carbon Shell - a thermoplastic material that is said to be less brittle and more flexible than conventional composite materials. Sustainable production: less resin and energy consumption
  • Semi-transparent visor extension for bad weather
  • Buckle: DoubleD instead of the previous Fidlock

Further features of the Leatt bike helmet

  • 360° Turbine Technology: Leatt's own development designed to reduce rotational acceleration and linear G-forces. Serves to reduce the impact force
  • Removable mouthpiece / main ventilation cover (familiar from the Gravity 4.0 helmet)
  • EPS - Expanded polypropylene: foam for impact protection
  • EPO - Expanded Polyolefin: a closed, moulded foam used in strategic areas alongside EPS foam
