The two new Flowline and Flowline SE MTB helmets are now replacing the classic A1 and A2 helmets in the Troy Lee portfolio. Their modern, minimalist design and improved features set them apart from their predecessors. To the delight of customers, Troy Lee is also lowering the prices. As you would expect from design icon Troy Lee, the Flowline helmets are available in numerous colour variants.

With ever new designs, colour variants and minor adaptations, the A1 and A2 have become classics in the Troy Lee Designs helmet range. In our last helmet test in BIKE 12/2020 the A2 shone with outstanding performance in impact and rotation protection. With solid values for ventilation and comfort, the Troy Lee A2 with its significant rear fin was even able to secure the test victory. Troy Lee is now sidelining the ageing models.

Replacement for the Troy Lee classics A1 and A2

But the successors are already in the starting blocks. Flowline and Flowline SE are the names of the two new trail helmets from Troy Lee Designs for mountain bikers. Here, the developers have focussed in particular on a minimalist, futuristic design. The simple side line extends a little further downwards and thus offers optimum protection in the event of a fall. A total of 14 ventilation openings, mainly at the front and rear, are designed to ensure good airflow and prevent overheating, even on climbs.

Both MTB helmet models from Troy Lee Designs share the MIPS rotation system, which is now almost standard equipment. In the event of a fall, it reduces harmful rotational impulses to the brain thanks to its easily movable liner on the inside of the helmet. It also minimises the risk of concussion.

Also the same are the double height-adjustable visor, under which a goggle can be placed, as well as a triple height-adjustable adjustment system with an easily accessible dial.

Troy Lee Flowline with simpler equipment

With its somewhat reduced features, the Troy Lee Designs Flowline is aimed particularly at beginners and price-conscious bikers. They can choose from a total of eleven colour variants for the 129.99 euro MTB helmet. In addition to the helmet padding, the visor is also available as a spare part in the colours that match the helmet.

Flowline bike helmet: More protection and features in the SE version

If you're looking for a slightly higher-quality helmet, you can opt for the significantly more expensive Flowline SE bike helmet. In addition to the features already mentioned, such as the MIPS system, the customisable visor and the height-adjustable twist lock, you also get a really practical magnetic lock from Fidlock and an antimicrobial helmet pad for 189.99 euros.

Even though the bike helmet does not look any different from its cheaper counterpart, its construction is completely different: The inner shell consists of two EPS materials with different densities. This should provide even better protection against impacts at high and low speeds.

Impressive values in the test laboratory

In the test laboratory of Virginia Tech, one of the leading institutes for helmet testing, both versions of the Troy Lee Flowline have already impressed across the board. Both versions secured the so-called 5-Star rating and thus the top score in the test. We have already been able to secure one of the first test samples and will be reporting more about the new trail helmet from Troy Lee Designs soon.
