"Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get," philosophised Tom Hanks in the film Forrest Gump. It's the same with helmets. The safety of the Rootage cannot be assessed without the shock absorption values - but we would have had to crush the beautiful helmet for that. We didn't want to! However, the voluminous foam and the fact that Alpina has reinforced it with carbon fibre suggest that it is pretty safe. Great: The helmet is comfortable to wear, but you can feel the weight (407 g). Clever: The beak-shaped adjustable visor can be pushed far up. Price: 170 €. alpina-sports.com

STRENGTHS Adjustable visor encloses the head well, wearing comfort
WEAKNESSES Quite heavy

CONCLUSIONModern enduro helmet with a low-slung rear for greater safety. Good fit and comfortable to wear. Disadvantage of the robust design: somewhat bulky and heavy.
