Caps for under the helmet in the test
Helmet caps are not exactly the latest fashion trend. But in winter you can hardly do without head warmers. Six models that impress with their functionality can be found in the BIKE quick check.

Yesterday it was the full beard, today the moustache is all the rage. What will the fashion dictatorship sell us tomorrow? Braided chest hair, or perhaps the shoulder pad revival?

Untouched by any trend wave, the helmet cap has been bobbing around in the sea of cycle clothing. Polyester mixed with a small amount of elastane, and the black swimming cap was ready to protect cyclists from wind and weather. But a light breeze is currently freshening up the sea of cycling caps. Giro blends merino wool with polyester linings to create a fashionable cap with a peak and fold-down ear protection. The Lung Cookie from 45NRTH may not comply with the ban on wearing masks, but it defies even the most adverse stormy conditions. Gore Bike Wear and Pearl Izumi equip their overshoes with clever details, such as openings for glasses frames or a slit for a mop of hair. And with the Bike Windproof Cap, Vaude finally brings a little colour to the dull uniform black. We can't wait to see what other innovations the trend waves will bring to the shores of the trail.

Looks like a bank robber's mask. However, banks and savings banks are not the preferred area of application. More suitable for Antarctic expeditions. The windstopper nose/mouth protection can be folded down, and the double merino fabric extends far into the neck and throat area.

How do you like this article?

The merino sheep bleat because they had to sacrifice their winter fur for this lightweight hat. We have warm ears instead. But only on days that aren't too cold, as the BaaBaa hat is quite thin and doesn't have a windstopper insert all round.

What looks like Sherlock Holmes' Deerstalker turns out to be a rather
rather comfortable helmet cap for cool days. The ear warmers can be folded up and the short peak protects against low sun and raindrops.

In winter, you often don't really know where to put the temples of your glasses. Under the cap, over the cap? Gore says right in the middle and provides the warm softshell cap with temple slits. This way, nothing sticks out at the ears and the cold wind stays outside.

Headbands were already uncool at school. But nobody can see that under a helmet. The half cap warms the ears and cools the head at the same time, while a wind stopper protects the forehead from the wind. Top: For girls there is an opening for the ponytail.

With the red Vaude cap, your head will not only glow visually, but thanks to the windstopper it will also be warm under the cap, just like by the fireside. The ear and neck sections extend extra-wide downwards. This means that even icy wind has no chance of penetrating your sensitive ears.
