Durability of cycle helmets
Not a case for life: It's not just falls that can damage a cycle helmet. The material ages even without external damage.

After a fall with visible damage, a helmet must be replaced, that's clear. However, depending on the conditions of use, the materials of a helmet are subject to ageing, even if no damage is visible on the outside. As the material ages, the protective effect decreases. Helmets should therefore be replaced after around three to five years.

If the helmet has done its job in the event of a fall, it should also be disposed of!

Too much UV light can damage the plastic, as can solvents from adhesives. Therefore, the bicycle helmet should neither be "embellished" with stickers nor stored in the sun. We also advise against buying used helmets.

For technical descents, he is prepared to tackle almost any ascent - under his own steam. As an accessories specialist, he is the first port of call for questions about equipment and add-on parts, while as head of copywriting he sweeps the language crumbs from the pages of the BIKE print editions.
