Everyone knows an airbag from their car. It is designed to protect the driver in the event of a collision and absorb the forces acting on the body. Minerva-AS from Erding has now created a bicycle airbag based on a similar principle, which is designed to better protect cyclists from serious injuries to the shoulders, chest or head in the event of an accident.

Minerva-AS AirRide bicycle airbag: On the spot in milliseconds

The latest model in the MASE Airding series is designed to combine advanced technology with a comfortable fit and a high level of protection in the event of a fall on the bike. According to the manufacturer, the AirRide bicycle airbag weighs 1200 grams and comes with a replaceable inflator. The bicycle airbag inflates in just 150 milliseconds - which can be crucial in emergencies.

The AirRide backpack's sensors measure the cyclist's position, acceleration and movements 300 times per second. A specially developed algorithm continuously analyses this data and detects potential falls, according to the manufacturer. In the event of an accident, the airbag is automatically triggered to protect against injury.

Airbag backpack from Bavaria: long battery life and innovative approach

The AirRide airbag backpack is also equipped for longer tours: Minerva-AS states the battery life of the bike airbag as 30 hours after closing the activation buckle.

In the case of Minerva, Made in Bavaria also means that the AirRide should not only fulfil high safety standards and be comfortable, but also sustainable. After deployment, the airbag can be folded up and the inflator can be replaced. This reusable safety concept is ideal for environmentally conscious cyclists.

More Minerva airbag systems for bikes - with and without helmet

According to the manufacturer, the AirCruise airbag system is recommended for people who do not usually wear a helmet. In contrast, the AirTour and AirRide are intended as a supplement to the helmet. The main difference between the AirTour and the AirRide is the additional shoulder protection of the AirRide. The AirRide is ideal for cyclists with a particular need for protection, while the AirTour is more suitable for those who are looking for the lowest possible weight.
