Helmet specialist Alpina presents the Brighton Mips, a new helmet specially designed for commuters. This helmet has integrated lights that shine in all directions. This increases the visibility of cyclists in the city and thus improves their safety.

On Brighton Mips COB light strips at the front and rear provide 360-degree illumination. There are four different light modes to choose from:

  1. Permanent lights
  2. Lights at the front and slow flashing at the rear
  3. Permanent rear light (without front light)
  4. "NY-Police mode" with short-short-long flashing

In the latter mode, the manufacturer claims a battery life of up to 15 hours after the helmet has been fully charged.

The batteries can be recharged in around 50 minutes. If the helmet is not moved, it automatically switches to sleep mode after ten minutes to ensure that the batteries are not empty the next time it is used.

Automatic brake light on the Alpina Brighton Mips

As an additional highlight, the Urban LED helmet is equipped with an innovative brake light function. A gyro-meter detects negative acceleration and signals a change in speed to other road users by flashing a red light. This means that cars travelling close behind or other cyclists are informed of the braking process in good time. The hand signal often used up to now to indicate braking becomes superfluous.

The rear light on the Alpina Brighton Mips also functions as a brake light. The speed reduction is detected by a sensor and indicated by a bright light.Photo: AlpinaThe rear light on the Alpina Brighton Mips also functions as a brake light. The new Alpina helmet combines safety & style

The Alpina Brighton Mips is constructed from Hi-EPS (High Expanded Polystyrene). This material contains tiny air chambers that absorb the forces acting on the head or helmet in the event of an impact. The additional safety feature Mips is also designed to reduce rotational forces that can occur in the event of an angled impact. With the height-adjustable twist lock system, the helmet can be customised and offers maximum comfort. The helmet pads are washable. The helmet's simple design is both modern and timeless and is designed for use in urban environments.

More safety in the dark - the practical check:

The fit of the Alpina Brighton Mips City bike helmet is shorter than many other bike helmets. It is therefore more suitable for round heads than long ones. The helmet can be adjusted almost infinitely with the adjustment wheel so that it fits perfectly. One small disadvantage is the lack of insect protection in the helmet.

The weight of the helmet is slightly higher, but comparable to other city helmets on the market. The additional light function ensures greater visibility and safety in road traffic. The helmet is easy and uncomplicated to use. Charging is convenient via USB-C, which is a practical and modern solution.

Overall, the Alpina City bike helmet with light function offers a good fit, simple operation and increased visibility. Only the lack of insect protection could be a drawback for some users.
