Hydration bladders are breeding grounds for germs and bacteria. At least that used to be a widespread opinion among bikers. However, word should have got around by now that the practical water bags do not pose a health risk if handled correctly. Water germs that multiply over a long period of time are harmless to us. Mould stains or a biofilm in the bladder are unappetising, but not critical. And you will look in vain for coli bacteria or faecal germs in our strictly controlled drinking water.
But what about the resilience of hydration bladders? What happens if you accidentally make yourself comfortable on your rucksack during a break? Or if you fall and land on your back? Will your bladder burst or will you look like you were late for the toilet after the break?
