I'm off - that's what more and more bikers seem to be thinking, packing up their bikes and roaming the wilderness for days on end like lone wolves. Micro-adventures or bike-packing is the latest version of escaping the daily grind. A wide range of suppliers now provide the right equipment for this. However, Acepac from the Czech Republic is brand new on the market.
The Czechs use robust Cordura ecomade for all bag models so that your equipment doesn't fly around your ears in the middle of an adventure. A nice side effect: as the material is made from recycled PET bottles, it is also good for the environment.
Acepac offers a wide range of bags to store all the utensils you need for an adventure trip on your bike. The Bar Roll for the handlebars and the Saddle Bag both hold a maximum of 16 litres and have a removable and waterproof liner. This can also be used separately as a storage bag. The handlebar bag can be extended with the smaller Bar Bag and a further five litres of volume. Here too, a liner protects the contents from moisture. Various frame bags, attachments for the top tube and bottle cages in two different sizes round off the programme.
If you can't fit everything in the pockets, you can also use the Flux Backback. This is not only available in three sizes (15, 20 and 30 litres), but also with an integrated Sas-Tec protector.
If you're travelling through the wilderness on your bike, you don't want to have to rely on the restaurant with the golden M at the end of the day. The developers at Acepack have also taken care of this and have a small range of camping cookers in their programme. In addition to various cookers, there are also pots and pans in which you can prepare a delicious evening meal. Perhaps with a previously caught fish or mushrooms from the forest that you have foraged yourself. Nice detail: the cooker set can be attached to the fork with a special bag for transport.
Anyone who now thinks that you can hardly afford so much well thought-out equipment is mistaken: none of the products mentioned above exceed the 100 euro mark. Saddle and handlebar bags, for example, cost 64 and 68 euros respectively. Top tube bags and bottle cages cost between 16 and 24 euros and even the 30 litre rucksack costs an acceptable 99 euros.
