Ghost has updated its 29er all-mountain SL AMR presented in 2016: the new aluminium frame of the SL AMR X is said to be noticeably stiffer. According to the manufacturer, the rear triangle alone offers 30 per cent more stiffness. A new rocker arm should also significantly reduce the load on the newly dimensioned rear suspension bearings. The two models with 150 millimetres of suspension travel at the front and 145 at the rear are aimed at downhill-oriented trail and all-mountain bikers.
The carbon model 7.9 and the new aluminium version SL AMR X 5.9 are available from dealers. Both models have a modern, but not too extreme geometry. The reach of the carbon model is moderate at 444 millimetres in L, as is the steering angle at 67 degrees. The 438 mm chainstays promise agile riding behaviour. The aluminium bike has a two millimetre longer reach and a 0.5 degree slacker steering angle. Boost hubs are fitted to both models.
The more expensive carbon bike is available from dealers for 4000 euros with a Rock Shox Lyrik suspension fork and deluxe steel suspension strut. The twelve gears are shifted by a Sram Eagle mix of GX Trigger and X01 rear derailleur, and wide Maxxis tyres are fitted to the Syntace wheels. Ghost gives the weight as 13.9 kilograms.
The aluminium SL AMR X 5.9 model, which weighs 300 grams more and costs 2600 euros, has a Cane Creek inline steel shock absorber and an SR Suntour suspension fork. Here you shift through the twelve gears with a Sram GX Eagle. As with the more expensive carbon model, the SL AMR X also rolls on Maxxis Minion mixed tyres with 2.5-inch front and 2.4-inch rear wheels, but in this case on DT Swiss M 1900 Spline 30 system wheels.
