Still little known here, the small US company Transition, which is based not far from the Canadian border, made it to fifth place in the IBC user poll. Reason enough to take a closer look at the Covert. Weighing in at 14.75 kilos, the bike with its rather heavy frame and solid wheels with bolt-on axles is one of the heavier candidates in this test. The low bottom bracket, the successful geometry and the wide cockpit earned high handling marks from all testers - with lots of control and riding fun included. On downhills, however, the suspension is split in two. Due to the limited suspension travel of only 145 millimetres, the rear suspension cannot keep up with the fork and passes on more bumps to the rider. The low warranty almost costs the bike a "very good" rating.
ConclusionExcept for the missing chain guide, the Covert impresses with its solid construction and successful geometry. However, the rear suspension offers too little reserves for an enduro bike.
+ Balanced geometry
+ Successful cockpit
- Too little rear suspension travel
- No chain guide
