Our test bike base model has been upgraded with Shimano XT brakes and drivetrain as well as lightweight DT Swiss wheels. Nevertheless, it remains under the 3000 euro mark. Rose has given the frame a smart overhaul for the 2015 season and given it more efficient kinematics. The rear end doesn't dive uphill like it used to. If you want to let it run downhill, the Pike is your dream partner. But before the descent comes the climb: frame size L is compact and offers sufficient standover height despite the long seat tube. Riders over 1.85 metres should try size XL. If you want to climb sportily, switch on the shock platform and tick a longer stem in the configurator (free of charge). The manoeuvrable character is a joy on singletrack. Downhill, it is noticeable that the shock absorbs large obstacles without any problems, but is less good at parrying fast hits.
ConclusionHigh-quality, fully equipped touring bike with an agile character and a wide range of uses.
PLUS Five frame sizes, lightweight wheels, high-quality equipment (selectable in the configurator)
MINUS Narrow saddle, long seat tube (be careful when choosing the frame size)
The alternative: Using the configurator, you can put together the basic Granite
Chief 1 with Pike fork, XT brakes and shifters and Tele seatpost for around 2300 euros. Maximum function for the money!
