With the brand new Panasonic motor, Flyer wants to make up ground with the Uproc7 and Uproc4 fullys and the Uproc2 e-hardtail. Here are the most important facts about the new e-mountainbikes from Switzerland.

The Flyer Uproc7 8.70 FS shone in the current EMTB test (EMTB 2/18) with a large 630 Wh battery and correspondingly good reach height as well as good suspension. However, the Swiss have not been idle in the meantime and have given the 2019 Uproc7 (27.5+, 160 mm) and Uproc4 (27.5+, 140 mm) fullys and the 29er hardtail Uproc2 the brand new Panasonic motor and new frames.

At just 2.9 kg*, the new Panasonic drive with just one gear is one of the lightest motors on the market and, with 90 Nm* of torque, delivers 10 Nm more compared to its predecessor, which was already a tremendous driver, an increase of 12.5 per cent.

The Japanese are also said to have tinkered with the set-up so that the engine power can be delivered to the trail in a safe and controlled manner, even on steep climbs. We recently had to criticise the uncultivated torque curve, particularly with regard to the fine-tuning of the engine management.

Modernised geometry for safe handling

The frame with modernised geometry (slacker head angle, steeper seat angle) is intended to make the Uproc even smoother downhill and less susceptible to accidental front wheel bumps on the climbs, thus showcasing the potent suspension even better. The significantly reduced standover height (according to the manufacturer minus 15 mm, depending on the frame size) leads to more freedom of movement and comfort off-road.

The fully models Uproc7 and Uproc4 feature optimised rear suspension kinematics for even finer responsiveness, while the frame stiffness and ease of changing the energy storage unit benefit from the revised integration of the high-capacity 630 Wh battery.

The new colours such as Space Blue/Magma Red, Opal/Lime or Tangerine Orange/Teal Blue are eye-catchers on the trail and at the hut.

The 2019 Flyer Uproc e-MTBs with brand-new Panasonic motor will be available from €2999 (e-hardtail Uproc2 2.10). Prices for the 140 mm full-suspension Uproc4 range between 3999 and 4799 euros. The top model with 160 mm suspension will cost between 4299 and 5299 euros, depending on the equipment.

Sebastian Brust was born in 1979 and was originally socialised on his grandmother's folding bike, but has mainly been riding studded tyres since his fifth birthday. Loves all kinds of bikes - and merging with nature. Believes that disc brakes are much safer today than they were 15 years ago and thinks he has helped with his brake and pad tests. However, the trained vehicle technology engineer very much regrets that the bicycle industry is orientating itself on what he considers to be the wrong ideals of the car industry. At BIKE, he corrects, produces and organises digital content on the website.
