After its successful 29er hardtail "Beryll", the Swiss ski and bike manufacturer has taken on its full-suspension range. The 150-millimetre "Amber" touring bike has been fitted with larger wheels and now rolls on 650B wheels. The geometry has been adapted and the carbon frame of the top model weighs just 2150 grams without the shock. For the high-end model, the Swiss have teamed up with the Swedish carbon fibre refiner TeXtreme. As a result, the carbon fibre mats and the fibre lay-ups can be specially adapted to achieve special stiffnesses. Nothing has changed in the rear suspension system of the four-bar linkage. But the good BIKE test in the 2013 season gave no reason to do so.
While the full carbon version is extremely expensive at 6000 euros, the Swiss are appealing to more people with the "Amber S" model. It costs 4890 euros and is available in frame sizes 17, 18 and 19 inches. The chassis consists of a carbon main frame, while the rear triangle and rocker are made of aluminium. In return, you get a complete Shimano "XT", Fox "CTD Evolution" suspension elements, a Formula "T1S" and the integrated version of the Kindshock "Lev" dropper post.
Stöckli is also working with the Swedish carbon fibre refiner TeXtreme on the new Race-Fully. TeXtreme produces carbon fibres for the majority of Formula 1 teams, for example. TeXtreme carbon is used in the seat stays of the "Morion RSC": they run extremely flat just before the rear triangle - as if with a kink in them. This means that the two carbon models "RSC" and "Trail" do not have the joint in the seat stay. Stöckli calls this the "Flexpivot" rear triangle. Thanks to the targeted carbon layup, the frame weighs just 1620 grams (without shock). This was also the specification of World Cup racer Mathias Flückiger so that he could ride it on demanding World Cup routes. The "Morion RSC" thus comes to a total weight of 9.4 kilos. Price: 6390 euros. The aluminium models start at 2290 euros.
The two Stöckli models "Amber" and "Morion" will be available in the next few weeks.
